To employ any domestic worker carrying out household or domestic tasks within your home you will need to declare yourself to the Caisses Sociales de Monaco as an Employer of Domestic Workers in the Principality (employeur de gens de maison) and get an “Employer Number.” The types of workers considered to be domestic workers and covered by this article includes:
- Domestic helper
- Domestic couple
- Governor / Governess
- Lady’s Maid
The Work Permit
With your employer number you may apply for a work permit. Your employee's work permit must reflect the job they hold for you and if this changes at any time during their tenure with you, a new work permit must be applied for. To complete this process, there are special application forms that need to be completed carefully, a registration fee that must be paid and personal documents need to be supplied. All the terms of the contract will be recorded at this stage and this contract is signed by the parties. This process will also allow your employee to be affiliated to social organisations, so that they benefit from health coverage, pension etc....
Upon receipt of the work permit, your hiring application will be registered as complete, and the Office of Occupational Medicine will schedule a medical examination for your employee. This organisation will send you an appointment, with a specific date and time. It will be up to you to give this summons to your employee, who must imperatively attend.
Monthly Declarations and Paying Social Contributions
At the end of each month, the Caisses Sociales de Monaco will send you a salary declaration form. On this document, you will have to indicate:
- Your employee's gross salary
- Hours worked and paid time off
- Any event occurring during the month (illness, maternity, accident at work, etc.)
This declaration must be completed and returned, before the 10th of the following month, to the Caisses Sociales de Monaco (CCSS).
The Caisses Sociales, will then send you a request for the contributions which are calculated based on the declaration sent to them. Contributions must be paid within 10 days, in person, or through the online service.
This online service, is easy to sign up for and, is a convenient way to manage the entire monthly declaration and contributions process. This service also allows you to edit pay slips, view your previous salary declarations, view, and download contribution statements. You can even set it up to automatically deduct the monthly contributions from your account.
Pay and Pay Slips
On the last day of each month, you must give your employee a pay slip and their paycheck / bank transfer. The system even provides an example pay slip that you can use to ensure that all the necessary elements are recorded.
Following these steps is vital to ensure you and your employee are following Monaco laws and gives everyone involved peace of mind.
